Month: June 2014
Act Party Leader and Parliamentary Minister John Banks was found guilty on charges reported in a earlier post brought to a head under a successful private prosecution by embattled former Accountant Graeme McCready. Although found guilty no conviction will be entered until after Parliament rises on 31 July 2014 for the General Election in September. Heres a link to the announcment by Gerry Brownlee in Parliament – he ends by stating “its pretty obvious that no-one is above the law in this country”, however, clearly Mr Banks has been thrown a lifeline which can be exploited by no conviction at this stage and I assume adjourned for sentencing pending no appeal.
This seems normal procedure, which allows Banks to continue passing “questionable” legislation in support of National.
